Allied Professions Day
On Wednesday 25th May 2011, there will also be be an Allied Professions Day. This is being chaired by Professor Yit Yang, Consultant Ophthalmologist at Wolverhampton & Midlands Eye Infirmary and Ms Yvonne Needham a senior Lecturer from the University of Hull. This day, running alongside the main Congress is for Ophthalmic Nurses, Optometrists, Orthoptists and Imaging Technicians.

This year the allied profession’s seminar is directed at providing not only didactic teaching and update in ophthalmology topics but also to address the topical issues of extended roles for Nurses, Optometrists, Orthoptists and Imaging technicians. There will also be key speakers on NHS changes and the implications on the Ophthalmic workforce.

There is a good line up of high quality speakers giving talks on interesting topics ranging from neuro ophthalmology to paediatrics, community clinics, extended roles, the NHS reforms and the Ophthalmic workforce. These are fresh themes, not visited before in previous years so this year’s Allied Professions’ Seminar at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Annual Congress 2011 should be very interesting, informative and may even be controversial in places - don’t miss it!
