Winner of the Treacher Collins Prize 2011 - added 4 May 2011
  AB Hall, H Nkumbe and J Pimm have won the Treacher Collins Prize 2011 for their DVD 'Intraocular cysticercosis: Surgical removal of intravitreal cysticercae'.

Winner of the Free Registration 2011 - added 15 February 2011
Ms Luna Dhir, Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital, has won free registration for Congress 2011 after her 2010 Congress feedback questionnaire was picked at random by our CEO, Mrs Kathy Evans.


Winner of the SOE Prize 2011 - added 15 February 2011
  The Societas Ophthalmologica Europaea (SOE) Lecture: the winner was chosen during the abstract selection process as one of the top two abstracts obtaining the highest marks overall during the judging process. The successful author will be making their presentation in the Ophthalmology Showcase session.

The SOE will award the lecturer with a diploma and free registration at the next SOE meeting. The winning paper is ‘British Ophthalmic Surveillance Unit (BOSA) Study of the Epidemiology of Ocular Sebaceous Carcinoma (OSC) in the United Kingdom 2008-2010: a population based surveillance study’. This years winner is Mr. Mahi Muqit.


Winner of the AMO Prize 2011 - added 15 February 2011
  A prize of £1,000 is awarded by AMO for one of the top two the abstracts obtaining the highest marks overall during the judging process. The winning paper is ‘UK and Ireland study of primary intraocular lens implantation in children ≤ 2years old with congenital/infantile cataract (IOLunder2)’.

Miss Lola Ameenat Solebo Ulverscroft Clinical Research Fellow leading the IOLunder2 study, has accepted the prize on behalf of her co-investigators, in particular members of the British Isles Congenital Cataract Interest Group.


Winner of the AMO Prize 2010 - added 15 February 2011
  This prize is awarded to one of the top two abstracts obtaining the highest marks overall during the judging process. This year's winner was Dr Mariya Moosajee for her paper 'Non-viral gene therapy for choroideraemia using a novel S-MAR vector which exhibits persistent episomal expression in the RPE'.

  K Waddell, C D Williams, C O'Callaghan have won the Treacher Collins Prize 2010 for their DVD 'Biamellar Rotation for trachomatous trichiasis: a new surgical clamp and training programme.


Winner of Royal Eye Hospital Poster Prizes 2010 - added 15 February 2011
The Royal Eye Hospital London and Manchester Prizes are awarded to the posters achieving the highest marks the poster judging at Congress.

The Royal Eye Hospital (London) Prize was awarded to Z I Carram for the poster 'First year experience of chemotherapy for advanced retinoblastoma in Tanzania: disease profiel and outcomes in 2008'.

The Royal Eye Hospital (Manchester) Prize was awarded to D Nguyen for the poster 'A study using SERVQUAL to evaluate patients expectations and perceptions of the quality of an outpatient glaucoma service'.


Winner of The BINOC Ivor Levy Prize 2010 - added 15 February 2011
The British Isles Neuro-Ophthalmology Club Ivor Levy Prize is awarded to the best neuro-ophthalmology poster. This year's winner was D Mansfield for the poster 'Delayed diagnosis of oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy (OPMD) in Scotland'.


Winner of The Foulds Trophy 2010 - added 15 February 2011
The trophy is a silver quaiche, held for one year, donated by the first President of the College, Professor Wallace Foulds, for the best rapid fire presentation at Congress. This year's winner was S S Zahar for her paper 'Prolongation of mouse corneal allograft survival following systematic and topical 3-hydroxykynurenine administration'.


Commercial Exhibition Prize 2010 - added 15 February 2011
The Desmond Wright Shield is awarded to the best stand at Congress. The shield commemorates the work of Desmond Wright who was Exhibition Director of Optic UK from 1984 until 1993. Stands are judged in terms of equipment shown, supporting literature and the presentation of items displayed by the staff. We are pleased to announce that the shield was awarded to Carl Zeiss.


Winner of The Nettleship Medal 2009 - added 15 February 2011
The Nettleship Medal is awarded for the best piece of original work by a British Ophthalmologist published in any journal in the last three years (Lancet Nov 2008).
Congratulations to Professor Andrew Lotery for winning the medal for his paper 'Association between the SERPING1 gene and age related macular degeneration: a two stage case control study'.


Winner of The Ivor Levy Prize 2009 - added 15 February 2011
The British Isles Neuro-Ophthalmology Club Ivor Levy Prize was awarded to the Birmingham Neuro-Ophthalmology Unit's poster that investigated the effect of pregnancy on the clinical management of idiopathic intracranial hypertension.


Winner of The Foulds Trophy 2009 - added 15 February 2011
The trophy is a silver quaiche, held for one year, donated by the first President of the College, Professor Wallace Foulds, for the best basic science oral presentation. The prize winner also received £250 from Professor Foulds. Congratulations to Dr Mariya Moosajee for winning with the paper 'The use of anti-apoptotic agents, curcumin and zVAD-fmk, as potential therapies for ocular coloboma in the zebrafish model'.

A certificate and £250 was awarded to the best DVD in the DVD exhibition at Congress. the prize was judged by the Honorary Programme Secreatry prior to Congress. Congratulations to Tom Eke for the DVD ''Face to face' upright seated position for cataract surgery in patients who cannot lie flat'.

The Royal Eye Hospital (London) Prize was awarded to Dr S. Roy Chowdhury for 'Metabolic profiles affecting the 5 year incidence of Diabetic Retinopathy in type 2 diabetes'.

The Royal Eye Hospital (Manchester) Prize was awarded to Dr M.Hawker for 'Detecting Glaucoma in Binocular Patients using the Heidelberg Retina Tomograph: The Bridlington Eye Assessment Project'.
